Does your child frequently come home with a pocket full of rocks, leaves, or sticks? How about those countless animal facts, or new pet bugs? Are you constantly missing the tape and glue because of some new big art project being constructed?
I’d love to meet those awesome kids, because that was (and still is) me, too!
I hope your small nature-loving artists can join me, Kate of Kestrop Studio, for this six-week after-school class. We’ll collect natural materials (like rocks, leaves, and sticks) and make them into a different kind of creature each week. Projects are tailored to a variety of age ranges, and all supplies will be provided (or foraged for). I’ll also bring in some information to share about the creatures we’re making so your child can come home with some new animal facts; but I wouldn’t be surprised if I learn some new facts from them, too!
We’ll meet at the studio space at Paper & Clay, 122 West Emerson St, Melrose, and from there head down the street to Bowden Park to collect that afternoon’s materials (and get some fresh air). Once back in the studio, I’ll show the students ways to construct their creatures while giving them freedom to explore different methods and materials. If the weather’s bad, I’ll have materials on-hand so we can stay warm and dry while we create. Each class will have a different theme, and the Creature Feature calendar will be released closer to the start of class.
